valentina-vitale:

Valentina pulled her eyes away from the fire wanting to keep the conversation going. She placed her book to the side of her since she was reading anyway. Once she placed her book to her side, Valentina started picking her nails once more. Valentina than realized what she was doing and stopped immediately, not wanting for her to come off as a nail picker. Valentina decided to talk more about Quidditch since she was so interested. “Please do teach me,” smiled Valentina. “What are the other positions called? What are the names for the balls? Oh gosh, I must sound foreign to you,” said Valentina looking down to the floor.

Jace smiled and placed his book in front of him on the table before turning to face her properly. “Well, there are three chasers, two beaters, a seeker, and a keeper. Its fairly simple. The chasers chase the quaffle, you know the red ball, and try to get it through a goal hoop that the keeper is blocking. The beaters take their bats and hit bludgers toward players to kind of surprise them and make them stop. And its my job to catch the snitch. Oh, and bludgers are nasty. They can hit awfully hard if you aren’t ready for it.” He murmured and showed her a scar on his elbow. “Fell off my broom and broke my arm because of one. Worth it, though. Had a hell of a good time.”

“You’re welcome.” He murmured and nodded slightly. It was just odd that someone didn’t know the game. he didn’t quite know what to think of it. Usually almost everyone at least knew the basics, but he couldn’t judge her on that alone. Hell, if he judged people on their quidditch knowledge alone, then he would be friends with a lot of people that he didn’t like and hate a lot of people he did. Irony was going to be the death of him one of these days. “I’ll teach you all about it if you want.” He smiled and began to listen as she spoke about her own book. As bad as it sounds, the minute he heard muggle, he zoned out. He had never been very interesting in anything muggle related. He figured it ultimately had something to do with his roots. “That’s sounds lovely.” He smiled and nodded, doing his best to be convincing about it. Things were just so much better when they were written with magic, at least in his mind.

He nodded as she asked what a seeker was. Honestly. Who was at Hogwarts for six years and didn’t know about the game? At least enough to know the names of all the balls and what they did. Or maybe he was just the guy who didn’t really do much else other than Quidditch. The later was probably true. Anyone that knew him, knew he was crazy for the game. “My goal is to catch the snitch. But only if we aren’t down more than a hundred and fifty points. See, most people think whoever catches the snitch wins, which is usually true. But sometimes if one teams chasers and keeper are doing poorly, and the other team happens to score at least a hundred and fifty points more than them, no matter what the team can’t win. ” He smiled and nodded with the information as he talked with his hands. Quidditch was definitively a passion of his, and he could talk about it for ages. “It is, and you should. You won’t regret you. We’re really good.” He smirked a little and looked at her book. “What is that you’re reading?”

Would someone like to meet me for a few drinks?

Jace nodded a bit with a small smile. “Its not as boring as it sounds. See something new every time. But it gets very mundane before you start noticing things.” He looked into the fire for a few seconds before she picked up the conversation again. He nodded in agreement, though he hadn’t done some of his assignments. He just wasn’t in the mood to study. ‘Course he knew what he wanted, a cigarette. But sadly he had promised his sister he’d only smoke outside and well, that wasn’t going to happen tonight unless he decided to sneak out. He was brought back down from his thoughts by Valentina. “I do. Seeker.” He said with a bit of pride in his voice. It was a tough position, but he was wonderful at it. “You should watch us play. Or at least me.” He smiled and winked at her before laughing. He was beginning to grow comfortable. Though the fire probably had something to do with it.

Jace starred into the fire while he opened the old book. It was beginning to fall apart at the seams, but he hadn’t wanted to magic to fix it. Not just yet at least. It still had a lot of wear left in it before that spell would be used on it. He preferred his books to be literally falling apart before he fixed them. It was an odd tick, but Jace was an odd boy. He sighed to himself and slowly pulled his eyes from the fire and down to the book. He read over the first few lines and slowly it seemed like he was reading from his head more than the book. He really needed a new novel if he was going to continue nights like this. But he knew he wasn’t. It was a rare occurrence for him to be up late. He preferred to be an early rise due to his running schedule. He felt his sofa move slightly and he pulled himself from his thoughts. As he looked at the intrusion, a smile formed on his face. “Likewise.” He murmured and nodded slightly. “Attempting… reading, I suppose. Though its more of a hassle when you’ve read the book ten times.” He chuckled slightly and closed the book. “What are you doing gracing me with your presence this late?”
